Temescal Canyon Gateway Park Hike

Sunday, April 27

WOAR Board Member Terri West will lead this intermediate hike which starts on a fire road and continues up a well developed rocky trail. The hike will last approximately 2 hours, with 15 minutes half way through at a waterfall. Though scenic, this hike will test your endurance. Bring water, an energy snack and sunscreen.

Rain cancels within 24 hours of the outing.

Location: 15601 W Sunset Blvd , Pacific Palisades 90272
We will meet near the restrooms adjacent to the second and final parking lot, located just before the hiking trail, not the restrooms closest to Sunset Blvd.

From Los Angeles, head west on the Santa Monica Freeway (10) to its end and continue up-coast on Pacific Coast Highway. Turn north (right) on Temescal Canyon Road and drive 1.1 miles. Just after the intersection with Sunset Boulevard, turn left into the parking area (fee at self-pay station) for Temescal Gateway Park. There is free street parking along Sunset Blvd. Once inside the park, be sure to make a full stop at Stop signs as there are cameras that will cite you.

Argentine Tango, born in Buenos Aires, has existed between 130 and 150 years. Although when viewed by those who don't yet know it, the tango may seem to be made up of many complex steps but the opposite is true.

There really are no steps as there are in other dances. There are elements which when put together are akin to jazz, improvisation built upon a solid structure. The tango is about connection with one's partner, with one's heart and soul. It is a lead and follow dance yet unique in that by following the follower, the leader gets the power to carry the follower wherever the leader wishes.
The music of the tango is haunting, powerful, inspiring, playful and today there exist over 20,000 recorded tangos.

What tango is NOT is the rose in the mouth dance stereotyped in movies and television. It is a profound dance which becomes addictive.

If you've read this far, then you're invited to take a tango journey with us Sunday evenings beginning March 23, 2014 from 5:00 to 6:00pm at The Tango Room Dance Center in Sherman Oaks, the only studio in Southern California dedicated to the Argentine Tango.

Check out this article about same-sex tango partners!
